Love Letters to Gabriel

Air Itam Dam adventures

May 16, 2009 · 3 Comments

Dearest Gabriel,

This was your 2nd visit to the Penang Air Itam Dam. It was a nice place to hang around as we could exercise with fresh air, beautiful sights, colourful flowers and seeing eagles fly high in the sky.

For the first time, mummy really worried you couldn’t finish the track and wanted mummy to carry you. Mummy would be too tired to carry you after a long walk..However, you did it. You enjoyed the walk, the nature, the insects and playing with the sticks and writing on the sand.

During the 2nd trip, you even sang  mummy and daddy a song.

Mummy Daddy, I love you.

I am happy to have you.

I will do my best for you.

So I sing for you!

Gabriel, you are so lovely!

Those were the days…Gabriel learnt walking

April 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Dearest Gabriel,

Since you were born, you have become the most important person in my life. You made my life become more meaningful and watching you grow up was really wonderful experience. Mummy likes the below photo very much!

Your very first steps

Your very first steps

It made me recalled the time you learnt walking…You started walking at the age of 13 months. That time grandma and “popo” took care of you. Everyday after work, mummy would sure bring you for a walk in the park, besides the lake at our apartment. Mummy would tell you the surrounding things such as trees, the blue clouds, the children, the birds & etc…That time mummy had such free time because grandma and “popo” would do the cooking and after you went to day care, mummy had no more time & strength to bring you to the park anymore. You were good boy too as after school, you would help mummy to wash rice or wash vege or you would play by yourself.

Fast food and chips

April 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Dearest Gabriel,

I guess all children like chips. However mummy seldom bring you to McDonald’s, KFC and all fast food stall because mummy hope you can develop a healthy mindset, have a healthy eating behaviour. When you grow up you can have a healthy body. Without healthy body, you can’t enjoy your life. However, mummy quite support McDonald’s and KFC kiddy meal as they actually gave away interesting toys and yet you can have a meal. Therefore whenever there are interesting toys, mummy and daddy will go to eat the fast food during lunch time (without you) so that we can bring home a surprise to you. All the below were few toys that we collected.

3 years old play…

April 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Dearest Gabriel,

Your favorite game at 2-3 years old is play camping. This started after you watched Pingu Goes Camping cartoon, you got addicted to this game and maintain for so long. You will request papa and mummy lying down on the bed, using our hands and legs to support the blanket. Then you will hide inside the “camp”. This really made our legs feel tired and shivering…We also will play cooking / masak-masak, you will imagine the bolster as sausage or chicken thigh. In order to make the camping game more exciting, we will pretend to be the monster/ tigers/ pirate to come to attack you…You will be screaming and use gun to shoot us. This has become one of our night time activities.

Visit to Taiping

March 23, 2009 · 1 Comment

Dear Gabriel,

We went to Taiping for a 2D1N trip. First stop was the zoo. We took the train ride as we won’t get too tired walking all the way. During this trip you saw a baby elephant taking a bath. It was as playful as you during your bath time, splashing water all over the place!

After the zoo visit, we went for lunch. Unfortunately the Piano Cafe was not open. We had lunch at the coffee shop on the opposite side instead. We told you that the uncle at Piano Cafe had to go to market to buy fruits to make juice for you. You were quite disappointed. Later we walked over to the Piano Cafe and found out that someone else has taken over the cafe. So, goodbye to good ol’ Piano Cafe. Will miss the nice food, drinks and ambiance.

Then we decided to find a hotel to rest for the afternoon. We inquired from 5 or 6 hotels until we almost gave up. Finally we found a room at Meridian Hotel. You liked the hotel room so much until you didn’t want to go out for dinner!

We went to Taiping Sentral for shopping and dinner. You enjoyed eating Kenny Rogers’ chicken, using the fork and knife by yourself. We met up with Poh-Poh, Gung-Gung, Suk-Poh, Suk-Gung and Yi-Yi.

We brought you to the Taiping Fire & Rescue Department to look at the fire engines and super bikes. You even tried to climb the ladder.

Since it was still early, we thought we might be able to make a trip to Maxwell Hill by jeep. Again we were let down as the jeep was fully booked already.

So we went for a walk in Taiping Lake Gardens and to play the giant slide. We all had fun on the slide. You didn’t like Mummy and Papa to slide down with you and insisted to slide down by yourself.

Mummy, I want to slide down by myself!

Crazy over Chips

March 21, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Dear Gabriel,

You have become crazy over chips and won’t eat anything else. Your favorite place for chips was A&W at Gurney Plaza. Mummy and Papa have a difficult time getting you to eat during meals. You would turn your head away, and cover your mouth, or spit out the food. Papa lost patience and scolded you for being choosy over your food. You became better after that. Actually Papa had to threaten you that if you didn’t eat your food, you won’t get to eat chips ever. Anyhow, Papa even took the trouble to prepare Fish and Chips at home. Because Papa love you. You enjoyed eating the chips and the fish as well. You said “Papa, the fish and chips is so nice! I like! Next time you cook for me again!” This made Papa shed tears of joy. Your words were worth all the effort.

A Lesson on Butterfly Metamorphosis

March 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Dear Gabriel,

One morning, grandpa and grandma noticed the curry leaf plant lost
many leaves. We thought someone plucked the leaves to cook curry.
On closer look, we discovered five caterpillars eating the leaves. It
was very difficult to notice them because they could camouflage and
imitated the same colour of the leaves so that their enemies could not
find them. Grandma thought it would be a good idea to keep the
caterpillars in a box and let Gabriel observes them growing into pupae
and then into butterflies. Everyday we pluck some fresh leaves for
them to eat. When a caterpillar was big enough it stopped eating and
got stuck onto a surface waiting to turn into pupa. Maybe, grandma
will bring for you to see in Penang. Here are some photos grandpa had
taken. We hope Gabriel will grow up to like nature.

Love from Grandma and Grandpa

Clown and you

March 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Dearest Gabriel,
During CNY, we went to the SP Setia Carnival and you took a photo with a clown. Mummy still remembered when you were young, whenever mummy brought you near a clown, you would cry because you were scared of the colourful face. Now, you are no longer scared and even wanted to take balloon from the clown. Cheers!

Love,
Mummy
